Mrs. Jensen’s and Ms. Reischel’s Fifth Grade Social Studies classes have worked to learn about famous European Explorers who made their journeys in the 1400s and 1500s. To integrate our studies with technology, students have worked in pairs to develop a Neo Office slide presentation (later transferred to PowerPoint) on what they’ve learned about a particular explorer. The pairs first selected and researched a specific explorer and gathered pertinent information using the internet. The students then created different informational slides: title slide, facts slide, accomplishments slide, and slide to show the map of the journey. This process involved learning how to create various slides with backgrounds, formatting text, importing pictures, and linking the slides together. All of the slide shows from each class were then compiled to create an entire presentation of all the explorers studied.
