The Oakland Board of Education would like to take this opportunity to thank the community, administrative staff, teachers, Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) and the Oakland Education Foundation for their continued support and strong partnership with the Oakland School District.
The Oakland School District has continued focus on the safety and security of the children and staff by working closely with our Township Police Department. This summer we completed a drainage project at Heights School as well as continued updates and enhancements to our facilities. Projects included reviewing and adding to school security, wireless and technology infrastructure, thorough maintenance of the HVAC system and boiler, and assisted in partnership with the PTO in the re-modeling of the Manito Library.
Our continued partnerships with the PTOs have enabled us to implement our I-Pad initiative throughout the District. This technology tool will further enhance student learning while also addressing individual student needs through greater differentiation of instruction. Additionally, the I-Pad promised to bring more excitement to the classroom. We are also examining other technology resources as we prepare for PARCC.
Our administrators and teachers have worked to create an exciting curriculum to meet the Common Core Curriculum requirements for the upcoming year. These curricula will continue to challenge young minds and provide parents with the assurance that their children are in the best environment for learning.
I encourage you to become an active participant in your child’s education. Become part of your child’s school PTO; volunteer your time & talents; and, most importantly, stay informed of the happenings not only in your school, but, within the District. Help make this an even better place for children to learn and grow!
Carita Shelkin, President
