What if my child brings home books incongruent to their reading level?
Posted by:Although I attempt to steer children towards books and authors that reflect their reading ability, students are ultimately allowed to make their own choices during book selection. If you are concerned about your child's reading selections, please don't hesitate to contact me and we can work together to enhance your child's reading repertoire. Parents are always welcome to come in and sign out books and I am happy to help you supplement your child's reading material with books suitable to your child's abilities. -
My upper elementary child still takes out picture books! Is this appropriate?
Posted by:I encourage children to take out any book that suits their fancy, because true readers read all kinds of books. Certainly, students should have a level appropriate chapter book that they are currently reading, but if they wish to supplement that with picture books, magazines, or graphic novels, I have no objection. Many of the picture books published today deal with sophisticated themes and prose that can be appreciated by both upper and lower elementary students. -
