Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Valley Middle School is a high-performing middle school and is the educational home to 447 students in grades six through eight.  The teaching staff is comprised of a team of dedicated and committed educators who believe in bringing out the best in each individual student.  They do this by balancing high expectations with a high level of support.  Additionally, the school is dedicated to providing a large variety of after-school activities, athletic events, and a comprehensive elective program to care for the unique needs of young adolescents.

At Valley Middle School we strive each year to provide common experiences for our staff and students.  These experiences are essential in forming positive relationships throughout our school.   Each year, thematic units are integrated into each grade level.  These are comprehensive interdisciplinary experiences that help to immerse students in their learning.  Each have culminating celebrations where students receive a deep understanding of each topic and share in the learning experience.  

The foundation of our school is built upon the strong relationships between our students, staff, the Oakland community, and the belief that we are all a vital part of the VMS family.  I am proud to announce that Valley Middle School has been recognized as one of the top schools in the NATION by Character.org for our Character Education programs.  This year our theme is “Gratitude Changes Your Attitude". Throughout the year, our students and staff will be using this theme to motivate and guide our academic efforts, our social interactions, and our efforts to improve our community and the world around us.
