Identification Criteria and Process
The Oakland School District uses a multi-measure approach to identify students for participation in the Gifted and Talented Program. This process ensures that a wide range of data is considered to recognize students with advanced academic abilities, creativity, and problem-solving skills. This comprehensive identification process helps ensure equitable access to advanced learning opportunities and provides a clear picture of each student’s strengths, potential, and areas of talent.
The criteria include:
- Standardized Assessment Data
- New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics (Grades 3–8)
- New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics (Grades 3–8)

- Standards-Based Benchmark Assessments (LinkIt Assessments)
