Kindness Starts With One


Band – Lessons for today are as follows:

Period 2 - Group G

Period 8 - Fort Lauderdale

* Reminder that there will be a CHALLENGER BAND Rehearsal today from 2:45 - 3:30 p.m. for all 7th & 8th grade band members.


Choirs -All altos and baritones will rehearse today during period 3 in the cafetorium. All shirt orders and due by next Friday. All Show Choir permission slips are due by Monday.


Attention all 7th and 8th graders interested in trying out for cheerleading or basketball.  Health history forms are due as soon as possible and physical forms are due by October 25th.  If you have not gotten forms, they are in the main office.  If you have any questions, please see Mr. Myones.


Bowling – met on Thursday and saw some high scores.  Special prizes and certificates will be awarded to all bowlers attending. Our next meeting is on Tuesday.


The School Store will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays during homeroom. Check in with your homeroom teacher and come shop with us.


Attention to those who wish to have their picture retaken - You must return your picture package to the main office by Friday, 10/25, in order to schedule for Picture Retake Day on Wednesday, 10/30.


The Step-Up Club is beginning their annual activity to help provide food packages for seniors who may be homebound during inclement weather.  We welcome shoeboxes or any individual food packets such as packets of hot oatmeal, granola bars, juice boxes, apple sauce containers, cans of tuna or soup, tea bags or hot chocolate.  Please leave any donations in our box designated for this by the front office.  


Volleyball Club – will meet next Tuesday, Oct. 22nd.


Notes from the Café – Monday is Waffle Day at VMS! Enjoy delicious homemade waffles for your lunch with your choice of toppings!!


Book Club - Do you want to go on a fun-filled adventure through time, a looking glass, or a wardrobe? Then Book Club is for you! Get a permission slip from the club bulletin board and hand it in by Wednesday, October 23rd, which is the day of our first meeting. Ms. Cumberton and Ms. Schussler would LOVE to have you join us!


Cross Country – At Tuesday's Big North Championships, the Challengers had four medalists. 


Soccer - After four goals on Tuesday,  the boys Challengers look to continue the scoring away at Dwight Englewood today. They’ll also finish off their season next week as they take on Park Ridge at home on Monday, Glenn Rock away on Wednesday, and Bergenfield at home on Friday.  The boys will practice on Tuesday until 4:30.

The girls soccer team continued their undefeated season with a 3-1 victory over Allendale yesterday.  The girls will host Dwight Engledwood down at the Rec Fields at 4pm today.  Come out and cheer on the undefeated Lady Challengers


Join the Hiking and Ecology Club and explore the ruins of a one hundred-year-old castle on our next hike on Thursday, October 24, at the Ramapo Mountain State Forest.  Permission slips for new members and sign up are required. Please see Ms. Boomhower or Ms. McCallum with any questions.


Attention 8th graders interested in applying to Bergen Academies - The student online application is now open.  Please check the Bergen Academies website early for more information and so that you do not miss any deadlines.  


Attention 8th Graders - The Cooperative Admissions test required for admission into various Catholic high schools in northern New Jersey is scheduled for Friday, November 8th, 2019. Google "Coop Admissions test" for more information on how to register for the test.  


Attention 8th Graders - Anyone considering applying to one of the Bergen County technical schools, three open houses are upcoming in the high school in Paramus.  The website www.bergen.org is now open to sign up so you can visit during one of their three open houses.  


Attention Parents! – A parent university workshop has been scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23rd from 2:00-2:45 at Manito Elementary School. The presentation will focus on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Overview. Please RSVP by Monday, Oct. 21st by calling the Department of Student Personnel and Special Services at 201-337-4442 ext. 7 if you would like to attend.


Attention Parents! - Reminder that the $25.00 Chromebook insurance is due. Instructions:  Go to the Oakland Public School Website, select Valley Middle School and click on PaySchools Central tab on the bottom right corner to sign in.


Attention Parents!  - The VMS PTO uses an online management system. PTO Members pay annual dues of $10 per family and support the many activities and events of the PTO. PTO members have access to the online directory and below items:
